in Europe

A room with a VIEW- NH Collection Palacio de Aranjuez.

One of my favorite cities in Spain is Aranjuez. It is fairly close to Madrid (about 45 minutes by train) but is a world apart. Last year we decided when we returned to Spain that we would stay in Aranjuez as opposed to doing a day trip. I already had my eye on the perfect spot. The hotel is called NH Collection Palacio de Aranjuez. The name says it all. It is stately, like a mini palace. The hotel is housed in a historical building from the 18th and 19th century. Old world but very modern inside.

We arrived early and were upgraded to a premium suite (room 221) with 3 BALCONIES. We shared a private entry with room 220. Very quiet, very posh.

Let me tell you a little bit about the area. It is about a 5 minute taxi ride from the train station or a pleasant 15 minute walk along a shady tree lined street. We walked to the hotel but took a taxi back to the station when we departed.

The hotel is directly across from the Palacio de Aranjuez. This palace was the spring residence of the Royal family from Philip II up to the 19th century. It is good to be King… or Queen. The magnificent Royal gardens and the Tagus river are steps away. The city of Aranjuez is a Unesco World Heritage Site and for good reason. I am smitten.

Cheesy smile but very happy guest. You can see the palace in the background.

The next few pics show views from the balconies.

View from the bed

Columns and terraces... Oh my

I would love to sit on that terrace for a very long time…

On to the room which was beyond my expectations. The bed was roomy, comfy and had a pillow selection that would suit everyone. There were control panels on each side of the bed that controlled lights, heat, AC, TV, you name it. The room was well lit with floor to ceiling windows (did I mention 3 balconies?).

Heavenly bed!

I love a good bathroom and I was not disappointed in this area. The marble tub was luxuriously long for an amazing bubble bath. The rain shower head was high enough for a tall husband and that is a good thing.

Fab tub and shower.

More than enough room to spread out. Yes, That is hubby in the mirrror. He walked in just as I took the photo.

There was a well lit “reading area” next to one of two mini bars. Convenient……in case one got a little thirsty…..The Wi-Fi was free and fast, what more could you ask for? The desk area held a coffee/ tea service which I always appreciate.

reading corner and one of the mini-bars.

We did not eat breakfast here as we usually opt to discover restaurants for breakfast. We DID however, have drinks and a late night dinner one evening in the Lobby Bar. The food, service, and attention was first rate. There were so many locals and that is a very good sign.

There was a fitness center which I never visited. I walked as if my life depended on it. No cardio needed. Maybe next time.

Our room was located on the second floor. We had a corner room. One balcony is on the left of the photo, the other two to the right.

So, if you happen to be in Aranjuez and you are not sure where to stay, check in at NH Collection Palacio de Aranjuez. I don’t think you will be disappointed.

If you should find yourself there, please say “Buenos dias” to Emilio. He is the perfect host.

    Dearest Barb,
Having just been in the south of France and being impressed with the hotels we found, I did check out this luxury place that you both had booked, on Trivago.com. What a great deal for that much luxury! WOW. Sure, it is off season but we’re not in the age of going to the beach and staying put. This is such a great cultural combination too.
No doubt you both loved staying here.
    ENJOY your Spain escape.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

Hi Mariette! I’ve never booked on Trivago, I may have to check it out. This was a direct with the hotel. I was more than pleased with everything. It reminded of the hotels where I used to do seminars back in the day. Las Vegas on Thursday for a conference with hubby. I am looking forward to that hotel- Red Rocks Resort. The scenery around looks quite spectacular.
Thank you for stopping by! You know I appreciate it.

Wow… exquisite! Maybe someday… It’s lovely to know that you can find beautiful historical places like this where you can actually stay! Oh, and I love your “cheesy” smile… it is more like “pure delight.” 🙂 So happy you found this wonderful spot. Thanks again for sharing the beauty.

This was a highlight Christi! The upgrade made it even more special. It was time well spent. So much to see and do. I can see where J.W got his “cheesy smile”. When I look at old pics, no doubt he is my lovely boy. Love you and thank you for stopping by.

Hi Jackie! Thank you for visiting. Can you tell I love Aranjuez? Huge fan. I feel very blessed to have had the opportunity even if I cam away with fractured foot. Hehe.

      Sending love always,
      Barb
